More on the issue of writing...

are you bored yet? I have a writer friend who views her writing as a business. I have seen that before and actually done that before but it mostly involved professional and technical writing as opposed to fiction writing. I have known many fiction/non-fiction writers who set "work hours" for their writing but don't know that they use the term business for their writing. It is an interesting concept and I can tell you that my writing friend who views her writing as a business is very successful in her ventures and I can see her soon being able to focus solely on the business of writing and not having to work a day job to pay the bills. She is that productive, proactive and action oriented. She amazes the heck out of me several times a week. I feel like I have done something when I write this blog, work on my word prompts and try to edit my novel. I really have to do something with the novel even if it is WRONG!!!! This story is to good to just sit and rot.

Back to the business of writing. I have to start thinking of my writing on a more professional level if I am going to get anywhere. I know I can produce good writing because I used to do so from a professional and technical aspect in non-fiction case oriented writing. I was committed and concise in my work. I had to be, it was part of my profession's "drill" so to speak. I know how to engage in the "business" of writing so why don't I do it now. I need to contemplate that as I write. The big thing for me is to keep writing. I let too many opportunities pass me by. I need to focus and let my muse flow even when she doesn't want to be proficient I need to prod her along. I have gotten some kicks in the fanny recently about my writing I need to pay attention to it.

Tonight my story, "Mothering Sean" will be aired on the radio. It will be at 7 pm CDT on
kuar.org. I am excited and can't wait but I think I have let this modest success serve as an "atta girl" to the detriment of my other writing. I need to pay attention to such things.

Well, it is time to sign off and get some other work done. Maybe even the business of writing.

PS ~ this is a link to the latest blog entry of my friend who views her writing as a business, it is WELL worth the read: bookbiz.jamiedebree.com/2011/05/12/ebb--flow.aspx
