#NaBloWriMo ~ Tabula Rasa...

2012 is a virtual tabula rasa or blank slate if you will. Mine has already been marked by wishes from friends and loved ones, a barking dog, a nap and black eyed peas for good luck throughout the year. (Have to have the black eyed peas can't take any chances with these kinds of things. LOL!)

I always love it when the Gregorian calendar rolls over to another year, we get a free pass to begin anew and start fresh with our lives. New beginnings are always wonderful. They bring with them the beauty of a summer rain and all the cleanliness that such weather imparts upon us. We are lucky to get this opportunity every 365 or 366 days. I consider myself blessed to emerge from one year to the next with nothing to hold me back and the chance to be fully recharged for the new days to come.

I once looked up how many "New Years" there are in a given year but there are many. The Gregorian New Year is not the only one by a long shot and just think, if we look up all of the "New Years" in each year we have myriad opportunities to open ourselves up for new growth and to begin again if we have gotten bogged down in the "old" year. Isn't it wonderful to have more than one shot at redemption per year? I find it to be a gift from the Universe that keeps on giving many times a year.

As you celebrate the day remember that we can always make our own New Year just by declaring it so and wiping our slate clean of any pain, sorrow or ugliness. We can renew ourselves and our spirits so that the old dust is wiped away and a fresh sheen takes its place. This is our gift the act of self renewal.

Deep Peace and

"Ciao!"

I made Hoppin' John (with black-eyed peas, natch) and collard greens. My collar greens came out really well this year, just as I was going to despair of ever having good collards. Even Mom pronounced them delish. She liked mine better than the ones the assisted living place made. Which means they probably didn't use ham hocks. o_O

Hoppin' John is really good but we decided on just black eyed peas this year. I am glad your collards came out well and that your mother liked them. It is nice to have your cooking be appreciated.

Cheers,
