Sadness in the world...

There has been much sadness across the American landscape. There were to bombs at and near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. It was heartbreaking and I was horrified as I watched the news. Then a fertilizer plant had a fire and a major explosion in West, Texas on Wednesday April 17, 2013. After that in thelate evening of Thursday April 18, 2013 and all day Friday April 19, 2013, there was first violence in Cambridge then Watertown, Massachusetts related to efforts to capture the suspects from the bombings on Thursday night that resulted in the death of an MIT police officer and the serious injury of a MBTA officer as well as the death of one of the suspects in the bombing, the other suspect got away leading to an all day manhunt for him with the Boston Metro area being on virtual lockdown.  Finally this man was captured. As of today he is still in the hospital with serious injuries. In all there were four innocent people murdered. One of the suspects is dead as well. There were many injuries, around 150 I think. That was just in Boston. In West, Texas I don't think they have a definitive count of the dead and wounded yet. There are many people unaccounted for and the destruction has been great. I am sure that there have been other deaths, murders and acts of violence across the nation but these incidents have certainly gripped the nation.

In China there has been a serious earthquake this week as well. I don't remember how many have died so far but it was a high number and about 6, 700 were wounded. With all of the violence throughout the world I can't imagine how many people have been killed and brutalized this week. It boggles the mind.

One has to be sensitive to the needs and experiences of others...this requires being thoughtful and attuned to the world around us and yet even in that awareness we need to find ways to keep from becoming indifferent, cynical and jaded. It isn't easy but the light always overcomes the darkness so it is important to focus and the light as much as we can.

I wish you peace, love, joy, hope and happiness.
